About the Artists
Eli Burke is an interdisciplinary artist working across drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and installation, exploring themes of loss, identity, queer embodiment, magic, empathy, and vulnerability. Burke earned an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a PhD in Art and Visual Culture Education from the University of Arizona. In addition to their solo practice, Burke collaborates with their cousin, photographer Jesse Burke, creating work that engages trans embodiment, masculinity, and transformation within the Sonoran Desert, Eli’s home for over two decades.
Jesse Burke divides his time between personal art projects and commercial commissions. His photography and film works often deal with themes related to human's complicated relationship with nature. He is widely known for his project, Wild & Precious, which documents road trips to introduce his 3 daughters to the natural world.
Jesse received his MFA from Rhode Island School of Design. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in the US and abroad and is held in many private and public collections including the MoCP: Chicago, MFA: Boston, MFA: Houston, the Princeton University Art Museum, the George Eastman Museum, the North Carolina Museum of Art and the RISD Museum. Jesse was named by Time Magazine as a top 50 US photographer to follow on Instagram and by T: The NYT Style Magazine as a top 5 to follow on Instagram.
